Simon Wholey

Simon, a native of the UK, is a seasoned outdoorsman with a profound love for nature instilled in him during his upbringing near the picturesque Peak District National Park.

Following his education, Simon embarked on a remarkable journey by joining the British Army, dedicating over 23 years to service, and achieving the esteemed Warrant Officer Class One rank. Throughout his distinguished military career, Simon's focus and dedication were directed towards honing his skills in various wilderness disciplines.

His expertise spans a wide range, including summer mountain leadership, alpine and military skiing instruction, and ski tour leadership. Simon also underwent specialized training in arctic warfare and survival, enabling him to thrive in the challenging conditions found within the Arctic Circle. In 1999, he completed the Army's Land Navigation Instructor Course, further enhancing his proficiency in navigating complex terrains.

Simon's adventurous spirit has led him to participate in several notable challenges. He competed in the grueling 12th Marathon des Sables in Morocco, renowned as the world's toughest foot race, where he demonstrated his exceptional physical and mental resilience. Additionally, he was a member of a team that conquered the highest mountain in Southeast Asia, showcasing his determination and ability to overcome formidable obstacles.

Driven by a passion for personal and professional growth, Simon pursued a Master's in Leadership and Management, solidifying his expertise in guiding and motivating individuals in challenging environments.

In June 2017, Simon relocated to the United States, where he currently serves as the Team Chief of Benton County Search and Rescue. His role as a SAR Tech 1 and Wilderness First Aid qualified professional underscores his commitment to assisting those in need in wilderness settings. Furthermore, Simon holds the position of an instructor and lead evaluator for fundamental and advanced search and rescue courses, enabling him to share his wealth of knowledge and expertise with aspiring rescuers. He desires to meticulously plan, teach, and lead individuals in enjoying the wilderness safely, whether for recreational purposes or search and rescue operations.
