Join us for a comprehensive two-day advanced navigation course aimed at refining your navigation skills to an expert level. This course focuses on advanced techniques such as contour interpretation and navigation using celestial cues like the sun and stars, perfect for those seeking to elevate their navigation abilities.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for individuals with prior experience using a map and compass who seek to advance their skills. Participants should be comfortable with taking bearings, pacing, simple contour interpretation, and eager to progress further.

Perfect for adventure/expedition race enthusiasts, off-trail adventurers, Search and Rescue Team members, and those aiming for high-level navigation in all conditions.

Course Curriculum:

Compass Navigation: Mastery of compass use in varied conditions, including setting declination and navigation techniques.

Terrain Association: Understanding terrain features, contour interpretation, and effective route planning.

Night Navigation: Techniques for navigating in low-light conditions using celestial cues and alternative tools.

GPS and Technology Use: Utilizing GPS devices, understanding accuracy, waypoints, and supplementary technology aids.

Route Planning and Decision Making: Strategies for planning routes and making informed decisions in diverse scenarios.

Benefit from courses crafted from extensive personal wilderness experience, military training, and years as a member of Benton County Search & Rescue. Our progressive, relaxed teaching style focuses on equipping you with the skills to navigate independently in any environment, no matter the visibility.

Inclusions:

The course fee encompasses instruction, specialized equipment use, as well as essential permits and fees for Hobbs State Park and wilderness campsites. Please be aware that this course involves overnight wilderness camping without restroom facilities.

Meeting Details:

Upon booking, you will receive comprehensive course materials including a kit list and meeting location details at least 14 days before the course start date. Sessions typically begin at 8:00 AM at Hobbs State Park and conclude at 1:00 PM the following day at the same location.
